A day trip to Ipoh

Prior to Fourforever's yearly outing, we went to Ipoh - The Town of White Coffee, just last year December.

So far none of us had been to Ipoh by ourselves. Hence, this will be our virgin Ipoh trip.
However, many thanks to internet informations and some of our friends' recommendation given, we pretty much had enjoy the trip!

This time Crazygirl couldn't join us for work reason (there goes the four of us), so it's just Chsinpo, Salady and Siaowoman going to Ipoh together.

In order to "enjoy to the fullest", we started off by leaving KL on 6am and arrive at Ipoh around 8am.

Stop #1: Ming Court for Breakfast

It claim to be one of the best dim sum in Ipoh. However, this Ipoh person that we met on that day beg to differ.

It was crowded and hard to get a place

The food we order

The food we ate taste different from what we had in KL, but Fried Prawn Rolls is da BOOM!! (on top left corner of the picture above). Luckily we manage to take that piece.

Just opposite there's this Foh San restaurant that sells dim sum just like Ming Court. It was 3-storey building. We were being told by the locals that it was too commercialize.

Stop #2: Kaya Puff at Sin Eng Heong

Siaowoman's Mom specially recommended this biscuits shop to us. And we are lucky to be able to find this shop despite having trouble to find it.

It shows many kinds of hand-made biscuits. However, what customers coming here for are their Famous Items in Ipoh - Kaya Puff:

Everything just near to the perfection! Worth try to taste. How nice KL could have this?
There's a blog post that talks about how the owner made this Kaya Puff. Hmm, wouldn't mind having this everyday! *dreaming*

Apparently they were lack of man power atm and requests us to wait..

What let down is their service. No matter how rush / demanding you are, you just have to wait. The owner there won't sell it to you if you show rude attitude on them.

Stop #3: Tau Fu Fa at Funny Mountain

Heading to Ipoh's Famous Tau Fu Fa at Funny Mountain, locate at Jalan Theatre:

Ordered 2 chilled soya bean and 1 Tau Fu Fa

Honestly speaking, it doesn't up to my likings. Not to mention the bad service received from the owner.
Anyway, wasn't intend to stay for long so we heading to the next destination.

Stop #4 - Aun Kheng Lim Salted Chicken

Coming to Ipoh MUST HAVE salted chicken!

It locates on the corner log and the whole building is red in colour. So it wasn't pretty hard to find.
It serves with final-product package. This was recommended by bloggers as well.

How they marinate the chicken

Oh I see..

One package sells RM17. Siaowoman bought 2 package and commented that it was worth trying.

Stop #5 - White Coffee at Sin Yoon Loong

What makes Ipoh so special? Of course their White Coffee!
There are too many white coffee restaurants in Ipoh. However, one that stand out is Sin Yoon Loong White Coffee Restaurant:

Ordered chilled white coffee

This is by far, the BEST WHITE COFFEE ever tasted! Salady bought back their 3 in 1 packet of coffee and commented that she had been non-stop drinking in to start her work day!

Seriously.. how on earth did they made it so coffeelicious?

Stop #6 - Kai Si Hor Fun at Thean Chun

It was lunch hour. Hence, we decided to stop by Thean Chun to taste the famous Kai Si Hor Fun.

Ordered this caramel pudding for no reason. Not bad!

Chee Cheong Fun

For some reason, this restaurant consist of many delicious foods. We have to wait for 45 minutes to taste that Kai Si Hor Fun. Hence, we thought of trying other foods while waiting for Hor Fun to be served. And, they do not let me down.

The Chee Cheong Fun was delicious! Not sure about the red-colour sauce as it taste less sweeter than what we usually had back at KL (with black sauce). However, it's just nice! If it's not because of "leaving some space for other food", we wouldn't mind having it the second round. (because it was quite a small portion)

Now, the legendary Kai Si Hor Fun..

OH MAI GAWD!! The hor fun is so transparent, the soup is just... WOW! Pairing with chicken broth and prawn, it's just so compatible... you cannot find this in KL! BEST HOR FUN ever tasted!

Wouldn't mind having the second bowl, if the stomach permits!

Stop #7 - Yong Tao Fu at Pasir Pinji Big Tree Foot

This was also recommended by bloggers.

However, Salady faced bad service experience that she was being told by the staff to cut the yong tao foos by herself!

The result: Salady's first cut work on Yong Tao Fu

Nonetheless, everything taste good! Never mind the bad service, it's cheap and nice.

There was this strong appealing smell of asam laksa when the waiter took it and passes by our seats. Hence, we decided to go for it.

And it did not let us down..

Sweet, sour, spicy, everything nice! Love the noodles!

Chisinpo claim that Penang's laksa is still the best.

Anyway, this is a great place to having lunch together as there were many food stalk which sell in cheap price. It looks like a food court. Of course, this Yong Tao Foo make a stand among all.

Stop #8 - Ipoh Parade

After all the food eating journey had worn us up. Hence, we decided to visit Ipoh's only shopping mall: Ipoh Parade, to just chill and escape the hot sun.

Ipoh Parade is much more slow pace than the shopping malls in KL. Shoppers sure very happy to shop here as there are less crowds. We do not have trouble finding car parking.

Spotted Angry Bird tissue wrapper. How cute!!

Stop #9 - Starbucks in Ipoh Parade

We even dropped by Starbucks! (And it's a must!)

Basically, it's just a great escape from all this exhausting journey.

Stop #10 - Lou Wong Bean Sprouts Chicken (Nga Choi Gai)

Coming to Ipoh also must try their Bean Sprout Chicken aka Nga Choi Gai!

Initially our target is to have dinner at Cowan Street, strongly recommended by Chisinpo's friend to have Bean Sprout Chicken there. However, our GPS doesn't lead to the right way. Plus, we were kinda rush.

Hence, we went for our plan B -Lou Wong Restaurant.

The serve 3 different drinks

IOHO, their chicken and pork ball was not up to our liking. It was hard and dry to me. The pork ball does not contains that flavour that we ate in KL.

Nevertheless, the service was fine.

That's all for our One-day trip to Ipoh.

Anyway, to sum things up, a food journey we truly enjoy it! Perhaps vacation must have side-seeing and from this post, obviously that we did not do any side-seeing. But that's ok if the food that we hunt  for was worth to try! =)
